Classification of Mammograms by the Breast Composition
نویسنده
چکیده
Breast cancer produces a high rate of mortality worldwide. Early diagnosis is essential for treatment, however it is difficult to analyse high density breast tissues. Computer-aided diagnosis systems have been proposed to classify the density of mammograms, having as a major challenge to define the features that better represent the images to be classified. In this study, besides comparing them to other techniques, different texture descriptors for the representation of breast tissue density on mammograms are analyzed. In the experiments, 320 mammograms from MIAS Database are used, and the highest accuracy obtained is 77.18% in a 10-fold cross-validation scheme.

Contrast Enhancement of Mammograms for Rapid Detection of Microcalcification Clusters
Introduction Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women. Early detection of breast cancer is the key to reducing the associated mortality rate. The presence of microcalcifications clusters (MCCs) is one of the earliest signs of breast cancer. Due to poor imaging contrast of mammograms and noise contamination, radiologists may overlook some diagnostic signs, specially t...

Breast cancer is leading cause of death among female cancer patient. However the early detection of breast cancer is dependent on both radiologist’s ability to read mammograms and the quality of mammograms images. Mammography is the effective technique for the screening of breast cancer and abnormalities detection. Screening is one of the key factor to reduce the death rates. The strong correla...

Background: Accurate computation of the radiation dose to the breast is essential to mammography. Various the thicknesses of breast, the composition of the breast tissue and other variables affect the optimal breast dose. Furthermore, the glandular fraction, which refers to the composition of the breasts, as partitioned between radiation-sensitive glandular tissue and the adipose tissue, also h...
متن کاملClassification of Breast Tissue by Texture Analysis
The identification of glandular tissue in breast X-rays (mammograms) is important both in assessing asymmetry between left and right breasts, and in estimating the radiation risk associated with mammographic screening. The appearance of glandular tissue in mammograms is highly variable, ranging from sparse streaks to dense blobs. Fatty regions are generally smooth and dark. Texture analysis pro...
متن کاملVolumetric Assessment of Breast Tissue Composition from FFDM Images
We present first results from a new automated algorithm for the volumetric measurement of the composition of breast tissue from digital mammograms. The new algorithm overcomes issues in previous implementations through better segmentation and use of additional information We measure the success of the new algorithm using an overall quality metric based upon the results from a large multi-site, ...
